Help Us Improve Women's Health in Manitoba
Prairie iGEM at the University of Manitoba is developing H.A.L.T.-UTI, a synthetic biology project exploring probiotic-based approaches to support vaginal microbiome balance and help prevent recurrent urinary tract infections.
Take our short survey to help us understand public knowledge, perceptions, and openness to new therapies for vaginal dysbiosis and UTIs.

Why This Matters
Recurrent UTIs affect hundreds of millions of people annually and often increase antibiotic dependence. Prairie iGEM is working toward microbiome-friendly prevention strategies that support women's health.

Synthetic Innovation
H.A.L.T.-UTI is Prairie iGEM's 2026 research project developing Evara to help prevent recurrent UTIs by restoring vaginal microbiome balance after antibiotics. This work is exploratory and aims to advance microbiome-friendly prevention strategies through synthetic biology.
Our Approach
Our project explores engineered Lactobacillus designed to help restore vaginal microbiome balance, block infection-causing bacteria, and support natural defenses against recurrent infections. This is ongoing research.
